Fadhil Hussein is an Iraqi artist, born in Iraq in 1961, and residing in Austria since 2015. His artistic career spans more than four decades.
He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad in 1984 and has since worked as an artist, professor, and researcher in the visual arts, teaching subjects including drawing, sculpture, graphic design, art history, and Arabic calligraphy.
Since the early 1980s, his work has been exhibited internationally in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Italy, Greece, Germany, and Austria, as well as in galleries across Europe and the United States. He has participated in major art exhibitions and seminars, including the Athens Art Fair, as well as international exhibitions in Venice, Hamburg, Berlin, and Beijing.
Fadhil’s artwork explores themes of memory, identity, and the human experience through drawing, sculpture, and multimedia art. He left Iraq after the American invasion in 2003 and settled in Syria until 2015. He then moved to Austria, where he has lived ever since.
He is self employed artist who works for himself and teaches painting techniques and modern art styles in his atelier in Vienna.
Fadhil is a member of several professional art associations. He has written numerous texts on aesthetics and philosophy in both German and English. He has been honored three times at the Venice Festival, as well as in Rome, Greece, and Teramo.
